Advanced collinear holography and a newly designed dichroic medium structure are introduced. Advanced collinear holography utilizes co-axially aligned information and reference beams which are displayed simultaneously by the same spatial light modulator. The recording medium consists of a dichroic mirror interlayer which eliminates the diffraction noise arising from the embossed pits used for servo and addressing. The system margin analysis revealed that the system possesses reasonably large margins, whose values are enough to make a collinear holographic recording system on a commercially viable basis.

Key words: optical data storage, holography, volumetric recording, optical disc, optical memories
