We demonstrate that four-wave mixing (FWM) microscopy can visualize photoelastic effect with depth resolution. In a principle confirmation experiment, we use a bent optical fiber as a sample and show that the FWM signal changes proportionally to the applied stress with different signs for the two orthogonal linear polarizations of the excitation beam.

Key words: birefringence, photoelastic effect, four-wave mixing, microscopy
